Aeon Flux

I rented the Aeon FLux DVD last night expecting a bad SF movie since it had stayed in the theaters a week or two at most. However, it was quite good. The story was interesting and had enough of a twist to keep you going. I didn't notice the acting so I suppose it was acceptable. The visuals and sound (as seen on my home TV) were good. I didn't notice any fatal logic flaws, but these days I've decided to enjoy movies and only complain if my supension of disbelief has to be helped by a blow to the head.

I don't know why it did so bad in the theaters. Some ideas are that, it didn't match the cartoon so the die hard fans dumped on it, "girl" action flicks don't sell, too PG for the R audience, too bright and clean for the distopia crowd, the technology too hidden and unobtrusive for the tech heads or ???

Has anyone else seen it?

Netflix is great for that

Netflix is great for that type of movie watching. I like it when they recommend something that I'm not familiar with. Also I can add it to my list and I don't have to remember it when I'm at a store.

Finally got around to

Finally got around to watching this last month. Dave, you state: "these days I've decided to enjoy movies and only complain if my suspension of disbelief has to be helped by a blow to the head." That's a good philosophy.

For me, though, this movie didn't quite entice me. It had a beautiful world and some good characters, but it seemed all to familiar and contrived. What I expected to happen, happened, with one exception. The action got in the way of the story. Really what this movie needed was some good critiquing from this group!

I saw the original TV show a few times and it was very strange. However, it also kept my attention. Why? Because it was strange and different and gooey. That, I think is the main failing of the Aeon Flux the movie, what interested me about the strange TV show was not present in the movie. By going "Hollywood" with its storyline, FXs, and plot, Aeon Flux the movie lost what was new, interesting, and gooey about the original series.
