First I'll say a little about my novel writing. I've gone with Scrivener to do the outlining and will use it to finish NaNo this November. I'm cheap so the half off for NaNo winners is a good incentive for me. I'll keep you posted.
Common advice for writers (but not universely accepted) is to write what you know. This seems either obvious - how can you write what you don't know, or silly, how can I write about the future or alien worlds. I think it was mistranslated perhaps. I think it should be - don't write what you don't know better than others. I think I said that right. So you can write your future, no one else knows what your future world is but you shouldn't write about anchient Egypt if you haven't studied it. DOn't change physics but extend it. In reality we humans don't know enough physics to say what is really impossible.
