Welcome to the contining adventures of Brad and Louie.

A Boy and His Best Friend

by Dave Krenitsky

Brad walked in to find Louie playing with some dinosaur figures. "Aren't you too old for that?"

"My uncle works at the museum. He plays with them all the time." Louie answered. "You've got nerve showing your face in here. It still smells like sulfur."

"Your dad thought it was funny."

"That's because he thought we were making a stink bomb. He didn't know you summoned satan because you couldn't spell Santa. We're lucky I hit the undo button before any thing bad happened."

"No harm no foul."

"I was grounded for a week."

"You would think there would be safeties on those iSpells," Brad said.

"My mom's a level ten wizard at the factory. She develops those apps. She doesn't need safeties."

Brad looked around and pulled an iSpell from his pocket.

"What? Put that away," Louie said.

"It's a standard iSpell. I got the Genie app. It grants you a wish. I got my cousin to hack it so the undo is an additional wish. So be careful. You go first. It's the least I can do for my best friend." Brad handed the iSpell to Louie.

Louie took the iSpell and looked at it.

"Just rub the lamp icon and make your wish," Brad said.

Louie rubbed his thumb across the lamp icon. "Your my best friend. huh. I'd be better off with a dog as a best friend." Louie  looked up into the eyes of a yellow lab. The dog jumped back and its tail knocked over a lamp. The lamp crashed to the floor and smashed. The dog started barking at Louie.

Louie's father ran into the room. "What is going on?" He asked. "I saw Brad come in is that his dog.?"

"Ah, ah, ah. Yeah, he brought it over. It's not his. He knew I wanted a dog and... Can I keep it?" Louie slid the iSpell into his pocket.

"You know your mother's allergic to most dogs. So no. Where is Brad? Have him take it away." The father looked at the broken lamp on the floor. "And clean that up. Your mother and I will figure out what to do with you when she gets home."

Louie got a waste basket and started putting the pieces of the lamp into it. Then he looked at the dog and pulled the iSpell from his pocket. "You're lucky I can't keep this dog," he said. He rubbed his finger across the lamp icon and said, "Undo the last wish."
