The original idea is to build a world involving colony ships that cross the stellar voids to colonize planets. Most importantly, the crew is evolving to fit the environment of their destination planet. The vast distances and time required to cross the voids of space are actually needed in order for these people to evolve. In this manner, the vastness of space is utilized instead of being ignored or forgotten as with most science fiction stories.

It is a big universe. Each author will write his or her own ship/ships. There will not be 1 ship as first discussed. In this manner, only the initial parameters surrounding the launches of these ships need to be created, and once an author's ship leaves the solar sytem, the author has free reign to take the idea wherever one desires.

The end goal is to create some kind of anthology with three categorie of stories: 1) The beginning of this evolutionary process as a ship leaves Earth, 2) the stellar voids and the evolutionary process, and 3) a ship rendezvous with its destination planet and the end evolutionary product.

The rest of this GenerationE area consists of questions, discussions, and information that are relevant to creating this universe. So sections have signifcant material while others do not. There is a lot to do, so help us fill in the missing details so you can create a ship or just experience what it takes to create a whole universe.

When solutions are reached then that information will be posted in the [Launch Assumptions] page and discussion will be effectively closed. If a decision has not been reached then the discussion will be found in [Discussion Area]. If you think something needs to be discussed and there is no topic or thread relating to that issue, then please create one, and let us know! It is always important to read the LaunchAssumptions page first, before proceeding to the discussion threads, because as discussion has continued, ideas have been abandonmed and structures have changed. For example, it is no longer important to come to a group consensus about the specific destination planet because the world structure has changed to allow all authors to create their own destination environment.

There are some basic rules we request be followed when working in this group project. They can be viewed here: [Rules for SFWW World Projects].

If you are unfamiliar with SFWW project building, we've created a page dedicated to explaining the proper way to provide your input, feedback, and ideas to the world building. Go here: [How to add your ideas to the GenE project]
